MONGOLIA

  • Mongolia is a small country
  • Located in the middle of China and Russia
  • About the same size as Alaska

HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY

  • Writing and chopsticks were traditions created here
  • A lot of their culture was forgotten due to Russian influences
  • 1990 was Mongolia's first free election
  • 1924 Mongolians became a communist government
  • This is only some but there's many more..

MONGOLIAN LANDFORMS

  • The Gobi Desert -largest desert region in Asia
  • Altai Mountains-known as Turkic peoples birthplace
  • The Mongolian Plateau -apart of a larger plateau
  • --the plateau is located in Central Asia
  • --area of 2,600,000 sq. ft

Some of the major industries include:
1. Construction
2. Mining
3. Cashmere and Natural fiber manufacturing

REGIONS

  • There is an inner and outer part of Mongolia
  • Inner Mongolia is considered northeastern (inner) china
  • Mongolia is surrounded by Russia and China
  • Very odd ranges of elevation

CLIMATE

  • Bizarre weather here
  • Temperatures can drop to -54 degrees
  • Blizzards may hit here during winter
  • In the summer it can get extremely hot
  • Heat in summer may cause bush fires

AGRICULTURE

  • Mongolians farming season is 95-110 days
  • Major crops include: corn, wheat, barley, potatoes
  • They also raise goats, sheep, cattle, horses, pigs, camels
  • Goats are valued for hair which can make cashmere
  • Mostly use subsistence farming

MAJOR RESOURCES

  • Mining is big for Mongolians
  • They mine coal, copper, gold and oil
  • These are the main natural resources

POLITICAL GEOGRAPHY

  • Mongolians are communists
  • --when people are completely contolled by government
  • --people paid for jobs based on ability
  • A population of about 2,953,210
