WHAT IS MONONUCLEOSIS?

  • Mononucleosis, also known as "mono," is a common
  • Illness that can leave you feeling tired and weak
  • For weeks or even months.

WHAT CAUSES MONO?

  • Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)
  • According to the Centers for Disease Control and Provention (CDC)
  • EBV is a member of the herpesvirus family and is one of the most common
  • Viruses to infect humans around the world.

WHO IS AT RISK OF GETTING MONO?

  • Anyone who regularly comes into close contact with large numbers
  • Of people is at an increased risk. Most common from 15-25.
  • Young kids can be infected but often goes unnoticed.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Swollen lymph glands in the neck and armpits.
  • Headache and fatigue
  • Swollen tonsils and night sweats.

COMPLICATIONS OF MONO.

  • Most often not serious.
  • In some cases people with mono sometimes develop secondary
  • Infections such as strep throat, sinus infections, or tonsillitis.
