MONTGOMERY BUS BOYCOTT

What is it?

  • A battle for the African-American civil rights
  • A boycott that African-Americans would not ride the bus till they had equal rights

What impact did it have on society?

  • That no matter who you are you can do anything
  • That you can do anything if you set your mind to it
  • That even if you're poor or middle class you can make a difference

Why did the boycott start?

  • Because African-Americans no longer wanted to be treated differently
  • Because Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man

The U.S. Supreme Court ruling

  • That Montgomery had violated the 14th Amendment
  • Stated that no matter what race you are you deserve to be treated equal

Did you know?

  • A 15 year-old, Claudette Colvin was arrested for the same act as Rosa Parks
  • That the boycott lasted 381 days
  • White people also joined in the boycott
