The Romans' architecture was very unique to them and their ways of life. During this time, public life was very important. For this reason, structures were needed to support the population. The Romans had the first "old school" stadiums. In these arenas, Romans watched gladiator battles. They also had public baths, developed sewage systems, and made aqueducts.
Roman baths were built on a large scale during this time and were completely public. Typically, the baths would include a hot bath, a warm bath, a cold bath, and a swimming pool. In addition to this, the baths were a place for relaxation and exercise.
In my opinion, the reason why Ancient Romans' developed their architecture was to initially serve a purpose. Although this is true, there is no doubt in my mind that they wanted to make a statement. They wanted to be remembered and to have something iconic to include as a part of their culture.
The Ancient Egyptians had a big influence on Roman Architecture. One example of this is the use of the column. They are widely used throughout roman architecture and were initially popularized by Egyptians.
