TEMPLE OF JUPITER OPTIMUS MAXIMUS

  • The most important temple in Roman
  • Dedicated to Jupiter
  • Served as major center of worship
  • Located on the Capitoline Hill

ISLAMIC CALIPHATE

MONUMENTS WERE:

  • Religious in nature
  • Palaces
  • Tombs
  • Fortresses

THE GREAT MOSQUE OF DAMASCUS

  • One of the largest and oldest mosques in the world
  • Saladin's tomb is in the grounds
  • Head of John the Baptist said to be interred here
  • Considered one of the holiest sites in Islam
  • Believed by Muslims to be where Isa will return at the End of Days

HOW THE SITES DIFFER
