The purpose of Mayan architecture was to serve practical and religious needs. We can see this because there cities all are designed using astronomy. We know this because many of there major structures line up with key points in the sky. As well as the common appearance of observatories in Mayan cities. They also would place a pyramid in the center of there cities. A temple was placed on the top of these pyramids. They were used for religious ceremonies. NOTRE DAME

  • The building was created
  • using modern building
  • technics, such as arches
  • and stain glass to utilize
  • natural light and strengthen the building.

Purpose of the Architecture
Most of the monumental architecture of the time was either used for utility or for religion. We can see this because most of the buildings of the time wear either small shacks castles or churches. Buildings such as the castles were built to show power and to protect from invaders. Churches were built to maintain the power of the church. We can see this because we can see a large number of them popping up in this time period. They were used to show the power and wealth of the church. As well as strengthen the faith of the people. Other structures consisted of peasant residences such as farms.

  • They both used stone in much of there construction. They both had a empirical system.
  • They were separated by hundreds of years.
  • The style of construction differed between the two of them.
