PROBLEM
- Abilene's father sent her to a town called Manifest
- Abilene felt lonely in a town where she knew no one
- Abilene ached for her father (her only parent)

BEGINNING
- Abilene was sent to a town called Manifest by her father
- Abilene met the man she stayed with named Shady
- Shady had untrimmed whiskers and bloodshot eyes, he was also a preacher
- Shady looked like he had been drinking (alcohol was illegal)
- Abilene found a cigar box full of trinkets in her room at Shadys house

BEGINNING
- Abilene lost her beloved compass on Ms. Sadie's fence
- Abilene broke Ms. Sadie's pot by trying to retrieve her compass
- To repay Ms. Sadie for the pot, Abilene planted seeds in the garden
- Miss Sadie told Abilene stories about a boy named Jinx from the past
- Abilene made friends named Lettie and Ruthane

MIDDLE
- Abilene realized that the trinkets she found are the items in Ms. Sadie's stories
- Abilene found letters about a spy named "The Rattler"
- Abilene and her friends went on a spy hunt around their town
- Abilene learned more about Jinx and the past of Manifest
- Abilene realized that there was a bad wound on Ms. Sadie's leg

MIDDLE
- Lettie found a letter about the Rattler in a class room that they broke into
- Abilene got trapped inside the school trying to escape from the mean janitor
- The friends created a contest for the whole town
- The contest required everyone to write down the best memory they had in Manifest
- A man named Heck won a dollar for the best memory

ENDING
- Abilene learned that the Rattler was made up
- Abilene figured out that Jinx was her father
- Abilene knew how to heal Ms. Sadie's wound because she had badly hurt her leg as well
- Abilene healed Ms. Sadie's leg by cutting it open to let the pain flow out
- Abilene walked along the train tracks and found her father walking towards her on the last day of Summer
