Exposition
In the beginning of the novel we are introduced to a married couple who own a very old and big hotel. It is a peaceful place for celebrities to come or just someone who needs a quiet place to stay. They come across a lot of people but this one woman and her son just stand out. The women's story of why she is here, her son, and the way she acts is a bit strange. They come to find out she was divorced and that her husband used to beat her and she is just trying to stay as far away from him.

Rising Action
The couple is preparing for the festival that comes every year because they will be receiving many customers. In this festival there is ice skating, sled riding, and mountain climbing. They are happy about this big event coming up but not their customer. The strange woman is sad and depressed because she feels like she is going to die alone. Not only is she feeling depressed but scared because her husband is coming to see her and their son. She does not want to see him but the couple convinces her that it's better for her just to confront this problem now and get it over with.

Climax
The turning point of the story was that the day of the festival the woman's ex husband was climbing on the mountain and someone cut the rope which lead to his death. This was a very exiting/busy day for the couple because a lot of people were coming in, and it was a scary day for the strange woman because her ex husband was there. The cops and the ambulance came, the ambulance took the woman's ex husband, and the police didn't let anyone go until he finished questioning everyone of what they saw and knew. The detectives came into a conclusion that it could have been either the strange woman(ex wife) or the couple who owns the hotel. They say it could have been the couple because they cared for the woman and she looked miserable and scared of he…

Falling Action
Ever since the day of the accident the couple hasn't been getting any business because the killer was still loose. The questioning continued each side denying they cut that rope. The investigators found some more evidence like the tool it was cut with was found in the couples bedroom. Even with this piece of evidence the couple still denied cutting the rope.

Resolution
The strange woman didn't intend for them to get hurt or their business so she finally confesses that she put that tool that was used at the crime scene in their bedroom,and she was the one who cut that rope. She said she was tired of him and that that's what he deserves for treating her without any respect and for beating her. The couple is finally released and got back to there hotel. It wasn't long before customers started coming again and there business was back and so we're they.
