what you might hear

  • we don't need that
  • it's a fad
  • it's all just SPAM
  • it's for kids
  • I don't use it, and I never will

strategy

  • what do your competitors do in the social sphere?
  • people thought telephones were a fad
  • you need a policy
  • your donors are there
  • don't use yourself as the "donor yardstick"

  • it's a stupid waste of time
  • you can't make me
  • it's just people looking to hook up
  • i dont care what you had for lunch

strategy

  • listen to @aliceferris next- social in 15 minutes a day
  • anger is often a replacement for fear - ask questions
  • I can't make you, but I can teach you!
  • donors care, we need to care back!

#bargaining

  • don't let it distract you from your REAL job
  • no one else can use it at work
  • don't use your real name (or ours...)

strategy

  • open a discussion on job duties and responsibilities - how does this help you accomplish goals?
  • try to think of social media as just another communications tool, like the phone, or fax machine
  • authenticity is key - establish tactics for dealing with trolls and negativity

  • eat the elephant (and the frog!)
  • set goals and metrics and report!
  • gather champions
