TIME TO GO OR TIME TO STAY?

  • Some immigrants choose to leave their homes
  • Some on the other hand had to leave or they might get killed

MAKING DECISIONS

  • Some Hmong went back to Laos to try to farm the land
  • Some went back to fight the communists
  • Some just stayed in Thailand

LEAVING THE CAMPS

  • Some refugees went to other countries like France and Australia
  • They had to show they supported the U.S. Troops
  • The family's who were not allowed to go, they we sent to a resettlement in Laos.

AN UNKNOWN LAND

  • Thousands of Hmong refugees had to learn English before coming over
  • By 1990 there were over 100,000'in the U.S.

CULTURE SHOCK

  • The Hmong had never used almost anything the U.S. Had
  • They did not know how to drive
  • They did not have money to buy land to farm

THE YOUNG HMONG ADAPT

  • Americans helped the Hmong adapt
  • Most Hmong went to college when they knew English

THE OLDER HMONG STRUGGLE

  • The old Hmong had to find their place in the community
  • The old Hmong were troubled after war with the new land

  • The older Hmong women struggled to find what they are supposed to do
  • The men were able to continue to what they used to do in Laos but they had low paying jobs or no jobs

LOST IN AMERICA

  • Some Hmong still struggle today in America
