MUGHAL POLITICS

LEADERS OF MUGHALS

  • Founder of the Mughals is Babur (1526)
  • Humayan was 2nd leader
  • Akabar was most successful leader at age 13

GOVERNMENT SYSTEM

  • Akbar made a government system called Mansabdari
  • It allowed fair tax, and maintained control by the military officers
  • This had a feudal system

POLITICAL RANKINGS

  • Wazir (Prime Minister)
  • Diwan (Chief revenue officer)
  • Bakshi (Handled revenue system and recruited officers)
  • Sadr (Appointed judges and awarded grants)

EMPIRE

  • Sectioned into Provinces (Subas)
  • Each led by Governors appointed by the Emperor
  • The Subas were split into Parganas (Union of several villages)
  • Each had a Magistrate (Shiqdar) and two Tax collectors
