Early Life

  • Born in Chittagong, Bangladesh
  • Enrolled in the Department of Economics at Dhaka University
  • After graduation, Yunus joined the Bureau of Economics.

What he did

  • Renowned for his revolutionary system of micro-credit.
  • Micro-credit was the extension of small loans to entrepreneurs.
  • This helped millions of people to escape poverty.

Recognition

  • Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006
  • Yunus was the first Bangladeshi to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
  • He is one of only seven to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, Presidential 
  • Medal, and the Congressional Gold Medal.
