I have taken away a lot of really cool resources from EDTECH 513. This class has not only taught me a few new concepts and programs I could use when teaching in the classroom and also online, but also the psychology behind each concept. I really feel I have a better look into how people learn in terms of layering different types of media to reach my audience.

Know your Audience

This was a huge area of interest for me throughout the semester because I felt that getting to know the psychological pieces behind the teaching was very interesting. I knew all these different teaching methods prior to the course but didn't know why someone felt overloaded or why they weren't soaking in the information I presented.

Do not overload learners

This was huge for me because I would have never thought that having some words and pictures could overload someone. However, it makes sense because I get distracted by pictures when I'm learning something being a visual learner.

Plan for the intended outcome!

It is so easy to get side tracked with different activities and uses of media when teaching, but I feel I really learned to narrow that to what I specifically want my learner to know and add no extra fluff.

celebrate success

Trying new ideas or ways of using multimedia in a class or subject can be hard, but letting the successful attempts be a marker for whether or not the idea worked. Celebrate that something new worked and run with it!

be creative

I learned to be creative without reinventing the wheel. It is very hard for me to not reinvent the wheel and I feel like after learning creative ways to use multimedia that already exist makes my life so much easier!

try it!

I learned to just try it! I feel like I often was hesitant teaching in the classroom when it came to using multiple medias, i.e. not just videos and readings and songs. I feel like I have a better sense of what multimedia is!
