Jackson received the largest amount of votes but no candidates got the majority of the votes so the house of representatives had to select the president. While the house was preparing to Vote Henry Clay used his influence with Adams to beat Jackson. So Adams became president and clay became secretary of state. Jackson's followers accused the men of making a corrupt bargain.
The Cherokee nation wouldn't give up its land. In treaties of the 1790s the federal government recognized Cherokee laws. The Cherokee sued the state government and took their case to the Supreme Court. Chief Justice John Marshall ruled that Georgia couldn't interfere with the Cherokee only the federal government could. President Jackson ignored the Supreme Courts decision and said "John Marshall has made his decision now let him enforce it
In 1835 the federal government persuaded a few Cherokee to sign a treaty giving up their peoples land. Even though most of the 17,000 Cherokee wouldn't sign the treaty. They wrote a protest letter to the US. The Cherokee's letter to the US did not help them. In 1838 Gen. Winfield Scott and an army of 7000 federal troops removed the Cherokee and lead them West
Nicholas Biddle was everything Jackson hated. Jackson was a self made man who started with nothing. Biddle camefrom a wealthy family and had a good education and social understanding. So When a charter came for the second national Bank Jackson vetoed it.
The South were mad because of the tariff placed and they didn't like it, because it placed a tariff on European goods which meant people would buy American goods which meant higher prices. So the south seceded from the from the US.
