During my time as a Engineer equipment operator I was called on to retrieve two 500 lb explosives from a harrier that had crash landed in the desert.(a harrier is a Marine Corps airplane also known as an AV-8B) My job was to excavate the hole in the ground with a backhoe to retrieve the bombs without setting the bombs off. Once the explosives were exposed we then attached chains to the bombs and carefully lifted them from the ground.
Following the removal of the explosives we carefully transported them away from any buildings and personal. Once we were far enough in the desert we reburied the explosives and controlled detonated them in the mountains.
My job entails training Marines shooting over 3 million rounds a year, for Fleet Antiterrorism Security Teams, who are their to recapture any American Embassy around the world that may be attacked. And the training of the Recapture Tactics Teams who guard the nuclear power plants in the U.S.
