  • 2000 BC-migrated from Russia
  • Settled in lowlands of Greece
  • Built Fortress Palaces on hilltops

The King held council meeting & entertained 

Land

  • Estates-how land was divided
  • Farmed by enslaved people or tenants
  • Tenants- people who live on and work the land for the landowner
  • Landowners gave the king horses, chariots, weapons, food

Hunting

  • Hunting was important to the Mycenaeans despite herding cattle
  • Women accompanied men 
  • Used nets, spears, slings, & bows and arrows
  • Hunted deer, rabbit, boar, wild bill, and birds 
  • Used greyhounds to help track large game

  • Minoans began trading with Mycenaeans
  • Mycenaeans imitated gold and bronze work
