The Lure of Egyptian History

I learnt about Egypt when I was seven. I watched the movie, The Prince of Egypt and I was captivated by the ancient history of Egypt. My mother took me to the library to borrow books on Egypt's history and mythology. From then on, it became a dream of mine to visit this fascinating country. Let me tell you more about my dream destination.

The History

Egypt is in North Africa and is among the oldest civilizations on earth. It thrived for thousands of years as an independent nation whose culture was famous for great advances in every area of human knowledge, from the arts to science to technology and religion. The pyramids of Egypt reflect the depth and grandeur of Egyptian culture which influenced many ancient civilizations.

• Most Ancient Egyptian pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs.
• Afterlife was incredibly important to the Egyptians. They believed that by preserving a dead person's body their soul would live on in the after-life forever.
