kokyangwuti

Native American Mythology

Kokyangwuti represents the Earth, so she is an earth goddess. She may also be known as "spider grandmother" to other cultures. She may be related to Sussistanko. Spiders, webs, and songs are sacred to her.

In the beginning there were only two: Tawa, Sun God and kokyangwuti, Earth Goddess. There was nothing living until these two willed it to be. Tawa thought of the earth as kokyangwuti reformed from clay. Then Tawa wanted creatures so kokyangwuti formed them from clay. Then they decided that they had enough so they made magic and breathed life into their creatures.

Mayan Mythology

He usually appeared as four gods called Itzamnás. They were assoceated with the points of a compass and their corresponding colors - east, red; north, white; west, black; and south, yellow. His wife is Ixchel and his son is Bacabs.

Ixchel and Itzamna are married. During their marriage they had the same job which was to brighten the skies. Then Itzamna found out Ixchel had an affair with his brother. Ixchel fled and was found then convinced to come back to brighten the skies again. They brightened the skies too much and the sun took out one of Ixchel's eyes. Thats the reason the moon's light is softer than the sun's.

Fu Hsi

Chinese Mythology

Fu Hsi also called Bao Xi or Mi Xi. Some representations show him as a leaf-wreathed head growing out of a mountain. He taught cook, fish with nets, and to hunt with weapons made of iron. Nu Gua was a frequent companion that was wife and his sister.

Fu Hsi and Nuwa lived in the mountain of Kunlun. For breeding purpose, they needed to marry but they were ashamed of the idea because they were brother and sister. They decided to practice divination and leave it in the hands of the Heaven. They set up two fires on the ground and vowed to the Heaven that if the smoke rising from the fires joined together, they should get married. If the smoke was dispersed, they would not. And the smoke joined together so they became a couple.
