Main characters
Pegasus
Bellerophon
Proteus
Pegasus is known to be the son of Medusa and Poseidon. He was born from the blood of Medusas severed head when Perseus killed her.
Bellerophon is the son of Glaucus and Eurynome. He's also the master of Pegasus.
Bellerophon killed his brother and went to Proteus to purify himself. Anteia, Proteus's wife, fell in love with Bellerophon. He was filled with anger but he wouldn't kill him. Instead he sent Bellerophon to give the King of Lycia a letter saying that Proteus wanted him dead.
The King of Lycia also didn't care to kill Bellerophon so he sent him on a battle to kill the Chimera, thinking it was an impossible task. The Chimera is a fire breathing beast which is part lion, goat and snake. It is said that Bellerophon rode Pegasus above the Chimera and shot his arrows to kill him.
Bellerophon intended to ride Pegasus up to Olympus but was bucked off. Pegasus took his rightful place in Zeus's stables. Whenever Zeus needed his lightning bolt, Pegasus was the one to deliver it.
The analysis of this myth is that feelings of anger, jealousy or rage can lead one to make foolish decisions.
My interpretation of this myth is that despite the multiple successes, you can't let your confidence become bigger than your reality.
