MYXEDEMA

What is Myxedema??? Myxedema is a disorder in which gland does not produce adequate amounts of thyroid hormone. This not common but it is more seen on females over the age of 50.

What causes Myxedema??? The removal of the thyroid radiation treatment to the neck area and obesity.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

• Weakness
• Dry skin & hair, hair loss
• Depression, gain weight
• Abnormal Menstrual periods
• Puffy hands or feet

Treatments *Consists of supplemental thyroidd hormones intravenously or orally.
*Monitor the levels of thyroid functions
***You will have to get a test for TSH, T3 & T4***
*START ANTIBIOTIC ASAP
