NAFTA

NAFTA (North American free trade agreement) began on January 1,1994
Purpose: encourage economic activity between the U.S., Mexico,&Canada
Headquarters: Ottawa (Canada), Mexico City (Mexico), and Washinton D.C(U.S)

WHY NAFTA WAS CREATED

It was made to make trade less restrictive.
It eliminated most tariffs on North American exports.
Reduced trading costs and increased business investments.
Also helps North America to be more competitive in the global market place.
Prime Minister Mulroney and Pres. Reagan wanted people to trade freely.

WHAT NAFTA DID

Eliminated all trades and tariffs with two developing countries
Quintupled trade between Mexico and the u.s
Made trade reach 1 trillion a year
Helped lift millions of Mexicans out of poverty.
A conflict was that nafta caused mass illegal immigration.
