WHO WERE THEY?

  • Naomi was a normal woman living with her family in a place called Moab.
  • During a Famine, Naomi's husband dies, and she is now a widow.
  • Naomi is not alone though, as she has her two sons.
  • She then gets her two sons married, and she lives with her new family for 10 years.
  • Her two sons then die.
  • Naomi, Ruth, and Orpah are now three widows who are heartbroken.
  • Orpah decides to go to her home to re-marry after Naomi tells her to.
  • Ruth decided to stay with Naomi and do everything with her including die with her.
  • Both of them moved to Bethlehem, Ruth got married, had a child, and Naomi took care of the child.

WHERE WERE THEY fROM?

  • Naomi is originally from Moab.
  • Ruth then moved to Moab to marry Naomi's son
  • After her sons died, they both moved to Bethlehem

HOW WERE THEY CONNECTED TO JUDAISM?

  • Their story is in the Bible, and it is called Book Of Ruth, and their story is read on the Jewish holiday called Shavuot

SIGNIFICANCE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF JUDAISM

  • Naomi and Ruth's story is important to the development of Judaism, because of Ruth's loyalty and unwavering friendship.
