NARCISM AND DEPERSONALIZATION

NARCISSISTIC SIGNS/CAUSES

  • Self obsessiveness or selfish and unattainable goals and motivations
  • This is caused by insenstive parenting but is unknown
  • Excessive feelings of self importance
  • Creates a wall of communications with significant others
  • Reacts to criticism negatively wiht shame or outbursts

TREATMENT

  • Treatment is group talk therapy and supports
  • Success rate is unclear due to the severity of the cases
  • Alcohol and drugs impact the persons recovery to fail
  • Depending on the severity of the disease, recovery cannot happen
  • Significant others are key in support/recovery

DEPERSONALIZATION DISORDER

  • This disorder is often caused by a traumatic experience
  • "Out of body Disorder"
  • The person feels as if they exist outside their body
  • The people around them are felt to be delusions
  • It is compared to a hypnotic state where as the person is in a dream

IMPACT

  • Creates complications with close family and friends
  • Memory loss and lack of focus
  • Very common in young adults and teens who have been traumatized
  • Interferes with work or daily activities

TREATMENTS

  • Psychological treatments with intense counseling
  • Training oneself to recognize reality and delusions
  • Medications are common
  • These include Prozac, Anafranil, and Klonopin
