  • chronic neurological disorder
  • disturbed nocturnal sleep and
  • abnormal daytime sleep pattern
  • Not caused by mental illness

SYMPTOMS

CATAPLEXY

  • Episodes of muscle muscle weakness
  • Severity varies among Narcolepttics
  • Emotional Trigger
  • Autoimmune Destruction of Neurotransmitter
  • Cause Unknown

HYPNAGOGIA

WIDE VARIETY OF SENSORY EXPERIENCES

SLEEP PARALYSIS

  • REM atonia
  • Frequent among narcoleptics
  • Sense of feeling crushed
  • Accoponied by other strange phenomina

TETRIS EFFECT

  • Domination of imagery
  • Caused by repetitive activity
  • Not confined to visual imagery
  • Physical sensations
  • "Server Dreams"

  • Random speckles, lines, geometrical pattern
  • Visual noise and synesthesia
  • Flashes of light in response to noise
  • Proprioceptive sensations
  • Changes in perceived body propotionn

DIAGNOSIS

  • Polysomnography
  • Episodes of Muscle weakness
  • (EDS)
  • Hypnagogic hallucinations
  • theorized that narcolepsy may be an autoimmune disease
