Point of View

  • Point of view is the term used for who tells the story

First Person

  • narrative voice uses I is a character telling the story
  • is a character telling the story

Second Person

  • uses "you"
  • the narrator speaks directly to the reader
  • reader becomes participant in the story

Third Person

  • uses he, she, or it, the author is telling about the characters
  • the narrator is telling about what happens and what is said

Limited

  • narrative is controlled through the limited perspectives of one main character (or a very few important characters) who does not know everything

Omniscient

  • audience is told everything including the thoughts and feelings of all the characters

Looking at POV

keeping in mind the following three premises:

  • 1: WHAT IS THE POINT OF VIEW OF THIS NOVEL? 2: WHAT IS SIGNIFICANT ABOUT THE WAY IT IS USED? 3: WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING THIS TECHNIQUE?

1st POV in TKAM

  • the narrative point of view can be said to be FIRST PERSON CENTRAL because the narrator is also the main character of the text, one who can report on the action of the novel
