NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES SERVICE

IT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1871

• It was established as the U.S. commission
• on fish and fisheries, it's the Nation's oldest
• Federal conservation agency. It's primary
• purpose is to manage, conserve and protect
• marine animals and to promote healthy ecosystems.

THE AGENCY PROVIDES

• Federally managed living marine resources
• which provides an important source of food
• and recreation for the nation,as well as
• thousands of jobs and a traditional way of
• life for many coastal communities.

AGENCIES RECENT ACTIVITIES AND ISSUES

• The senate hearing on seafood
• sustainability on September, 24.
• Also when the Florida delegation
• staff visited the NOAA ship on
• September, 20. Both were held in 2013.
