NATO: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France,Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands,Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Warsaw Pact: Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria.
Causes
On April 4, 1949, Twelve nations agreed to sign the Treaty Of NATO(North Atlantic Treaty Organization). The agreement states that any one person who fired an attack against one person then that would declare a war to all. The military force would be kept in Europe to defend against The Soviet. As this pact was created, this sparked a retaliation from the Soviet Union. In response to NATO, the Soviet Union created the Warsaw Pact.
Causes
Truman believed that a reconstructed Germany was necessary, so he made an agreement with England and France to merge the three Western Zones and create a new West German Republic. Stalin acted quickly, sending a blockade around the western sectors of Berlin.
Causes
Its Value: The NATO was important because of its impact of the world. It was such a big factor, that this treaty even goes on today. Because it was such a large scale treaty, containing many nations, the thought of initiating an attack was out of the question. Not only will it start an uprising, but this could make a loss of many lives.
Character
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949.
Significance
But while the modern NATO is generally more recognized for its role beyond rather than within Europe, Russian actions in recent years, particularly its 2014 intervention in Ukraine, have refocused the alliance's attention on the continent. There are now 28 countries and Germany was added on the year of 1995.
