WHAT IS A TSUNAMI?

  • A tsunami is a series of waves that send surges of water reaching up to 100 feet.

WHAT CAUSES TSUNAMIS

  • The first cause is from underwater earthquakes
  • The second cause is from underwater volcanos

TYPES OF TSUNAMI

  • Local-destruction 100 km from source of tsunami(-1 hour arrival time)
  • Regional-destruction 100-1000 km from source of tsunami(1-3 arrival time)
  • Distant-destruction 1000+ km from source of tsunami(3+ arrival time)

THE WORST TSUNAMI SINCE 2000.

  • The 2004 indin ocean tsunami.
  • Killed 150,000 and injured hundred thousands more.
  • Thought to had the power of 23,000 Hiroshima type atomic bombs.

THE WARNING SIGNS.

  • The first sign is a rumbling sound and the ground shaking
  • The second sign is shallow water reseeding or falling back in the the ocean
  • The you see huge swells of water coming on shore,the tsunami has hit.

DO ANIMALS HAVE A 6TH SENSE?

  • Sciencetist have said that there were nearly no animal deaths in the 2004 tsunami
  • Because the animals acted strange and and broke lose from thier chains and headed for high ground.

  • Hydrophones are used to measure tsunamis.
