NAtural gas

  • Natural Gas is a non-renewable energy source
  • When it has been used it can't be used again.

how it's used

  • Natural gas can be used to produce heat and electricity.
  • This can then be used to heat a home or cook on a gas grill.
  • The Chinese first used natural gas to make light.

HOW it works

  • Hydrogen and oxygen flow into opposite sides of the cell
  • Only the posotive ions pass through
  • A negative charged pole strips electrons from the hydrogen atoms
  • Oxygen enters the cell near the cathode to produce water
  • The water is removed through an exhaust system thus creating heat.

Natural Gas Types Used in the USA

Usage

  • Natural gas is the most used resource in the USA.
  • It is 53% of the resources used in the USA.
  • The next closest one is electricity at 29%.

PROS

  • Natural Gas produce 21% of the worlds power.
  • Natural Gas is clean burning.
  • It emits less Co2 than oil and coal,
  • Far better for cooking than electricity.

COns

  • It is a non-renewable resource
  • Though it emits less Co2, it still emits millions of tons in a year
  • Requires extensive pipelines to deliver to house and workplaces.
  • The biggest danger is an explosion during the extracration process.

Natural Gas Explosion Kills Schoolchildren In Texas:
The school of New London in Texas was unknowingly built in the middle of a natural gas field. Instead of the final bell all of the children heard a humongous explosion. Over 300 students were killed and more than 100 were injured. This event was caused by a natural gas leak in the building that was sparked by an unknown source. This event occurred March 18, 1937.
