What are fossil fuels?

Fossil fuels are non renewable resources that come from fossils buried deep under the ground.

Cool Coal

Formed by land, plants and animals.

Formed in sedimentary rock, that becomes metamorphic with heat and pressure.

Takes millions of years to form.

Provides most of the electricity.
Produces a lot of Pollution.

Oil

-Most plastic comes from oil
-Formed by ocean plants and animals
-Million years to form
-Causes pollution but not as much as coal
-Provides most of transportation energy
- Formed in sedimentary rock that is turning into metamorphic.

Natural Gas

*Formed by ocean, plants, and animals.
*Formed in sedimentary rock that is becoming metamorphic.
*Takes millions of years to form
*Provides heat for homes and business
*Some people cook with natural gas stoves
*Produces almost no pollution.
