PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The NC State Bird is the Cardinal. Cardinals are also called " red birds ". Only the males are vibrant red. They are active songbirds. They join flocks of other species of birds.

The NC State Dog is the Plott Hound. Plotts are powerful and well- muscled. They like to hunt big game. Plotts are used for coonhunting. They also like to please you.

The NC State Mammal is the Gray Squirrel. The Squirrel weighs up to one -one and one forth pounds. They like to live in
sweet gum trees. They also like gardens.

The NC State Reptile is the Eastern Box Turtle. The Box Turtle can grow to be 8in. long. Box Turtles lays up to 3-8 eggs. Box Turtles are omnivorous.

The NC State Wild Flower is the Carolina Lily. The Lily is found in July and August. The leaf is 3in. long. It likes the sunlight. It has 6 tepals.

The NC State Shell is the Scotch Bonnet. The Shell can lay eggs. This Shell is fragile. They are found in the Gulf Stream. It was the 1st named Shell.

The NC State Flower is the Dogwood. They are also called Cornus Flordia. They spread about 20 feet. They are as tall as 30 feet. Their petals are leaves.

The NC State colors are Red White and Blue. They are used in the U.S. flag. Red means blood,war,and courage. Blue means justice and freedom. White stands for purity.

The NC State Horse is the Spanish Mustang. They run wild on the Outer Banks. They are even tempered and gentle. There are only 200 left world wide.

The NC State Stone is the Emerald. It was designated the official State Stone. The biggest one weighed 1,800 carats. The mineral is green.
