NEBULAR HYPOTHESIS

BY: JULIA G.

COLLAPSE OF THE SOLAR NEBULA

  • After our solar nebula collapsed it took almost 10 million years to form a solar system
  • When it collapsed it because much denser so the attraction between dust and gas increased

  • But because the nebula was not enough force to keep the cloud together it flattened in to a protostellar disk and the center became warm

FORMATION OF THE PLANETESIMALS

  • As tiny bits of dust orbit around the center of the solar nebula, some particles collided and began to get bigger.
  • Eventually as more collisions occur planetesimals or small planets form
  • This is also the time where a protoplanetary disk forms.

FORMATION OF THE PLANETS

  • After planetesimals form they start colliding with one another and their gravity pulls more dust and gas towards them to start forming bigger planets that began to orbit the new sun.

FORMATION OF THE SUN

  • While the planets were forming the sun was starting to form
  • This process starts when other matter in the solar nebula is pulled to the center.

Untitled Slide

  • The center becomes so hot that hydrogen atoms are fused together to form helium.
  • Fusion releases a huge amount of energy and balances the inward pull of gravity.
  • After that a sun is born and the solar system is done!
