OVERVIEW

•South African anti-apartheid insurgent, politician, and philanthropist.

•First black South African president , inaugurated in 1994.

•Was part of the African National Congress (ANC).

•Dedicated life to end apartheid and improve government.

•Constantly imprisoned for several acts of defiance.

• Served 27 years hard labor (1964-1990) for treason.

1. Aspiring leader who was cool, calm, and collected.

2. Symbol of audacity, endurance, hope, and composure.

3. Had unwavering, lifelong intention to better South Africa.

4. Maintained beliefs to oppose apartheid despite difficulties.

5. Perseverance lead to now apartheid-free, well-balanced South Africa.

CONS

1. Many people disagreed with Mandela and his organization.

2. Had many enemies due to his anti-apartheid movement.

3. Due to government repression, wasn't completely above violence.

4. Some anti-apartheid methods were questionable and deceptive.
