BY: LOGAN ELDRIDGE AND ZACH PSRISH

Nelson Mandela was a anti-apartheid revolutionary. He sacrificed a lot to accomplish his goals and dreams. He was even prepared to die for what he believed in. Nelson helped found the African National Congress(ANC), which goal is to eliminate apartheid. How he accomplished his goals is he lead protests and marches. Resulting in 27 years of imprisonment.

MORE PERSONAL HISTORY

  • He remarried in 1958 to Winifred Madikizela and had 2 daughters with her.
  • On his first day of school he got a new Christian name. He was originally named Rolihlahla and his teacher renamed him Nelson.

SPECIFIC CHOICES HE MADE

  • In 1985 the president of South Africa(who was pro-apartheid) offered to set him free if he left the organization(ANC), but he refused it. This shows that instead of being selfish and getting himself free, he did what was better for the organization.

SECOND CHOICE

  • The second choice was in 1993. A black man, who was an equal rights fighter, was shot by a white woman when he was getting out of his car. Many of the black people wanted revenge, but after Nelson Mandela got out of jail, he chose to be calm. This made him a great leader because this made him stand out above most people.

ANOTHER CHOICE

  • In 1994, Nelson Mandela refused to stand for a second term as president. Usually presidents want all the power for a long time, but Nelson refused it. This shows he was a selfless leader.

QUOTES

  • "I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for, and to see realised. But my Lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." This shows he was prepared to die for what he believed in.

MORE QUOTES

  • "We enter into a covenant that we shall build a society in which all South Africans, both black and white, will be able to walk tall, without any fear in their hearts, assured of their inalienable right to human dignity – a rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world." These are the dreams he hoped to accomplish.
  • "We are not anti-white, we are against white supremacy … we have condemned racialism no matter by whom it is professed."

In conclusion, Nelson Mandela was an exceptional, and detimined leader. He set his goals high and wouldn't stop until he achieved them. Nelson was a leader, an inspiration, and a hero.
