What it looks like.

  • It looks like a worm such as a roundworm or thread worm.
  • They are very small

Lifecycle

  • Female and male lay eggs in roots
  • Grow until juveniles in root
  • Nematodes then live in the roots
  • Live in the soil until its time to reproduce

Signs and Symptoms

  • Plants will look like they have nutrients deficiency
  • Reduce yields in crop
  • Reduces plants ability to get water and nutrients

Nematodes in trees

  • Pine wilt is a disease of pine caused by nematodes
  • 20 different types of pine species
  • Symptoms show in late spring or summer
  • foliage becomes a pale green then yellow
  • Sap comes out of the bark

NEMATODES IN ROW CROP

  • They invade the stem in wet weather or early spring
  • Infected plants appear yellow or even white in color
  • Infected stems are brittle and tend to brake
  • Crinkled leaves that happen between vines.
  • Crowns of Infected plants are not firm some even spongy.

NEMATODES IN PLANTS

  • Impatiens the plant wilts
  • The plant has stunted growth
  • The leaves are yellow

How to Contol:

  • Cultural: Cover Crops and Crop rotaion
  • Chemical: Apply a nematicide such as Multigurd
  • Mechanical: Dig up the infected plants or squish them
  • Biological: other fungi and bacteria.
  • Genetic: Plant breads create nematode resistant plants.
