THE NEO-BABYLONIAN EMPIRE

BY: BHAVYA, ALVIN, JACOB,SHERYL, AND NICHOLAS

Once upon a time, there was a child that lived in the empire of Neo-Babylonia thousands of years ago. The empire's king's name was Nebuchadnezzar II, who was in charge of the empire.

He fought many nations around his empire, like Israel, gaining more land for his empire to grow. Nebukarraza II made the people of the nations he conquered slaves. He built extremely thick and tall walls to protect the empire.

He also built ziggurats (religious temples) for the people to honor their gods. One famous ziggurat was the "House of the Platform of Heaven and Earth." He planted beautiful gardens on walls called the Hanging Gardens of Babylon that became famous.

The languages the boy spoke were Akkadian, which was spoken in ancient Mesopotamia, and Aramaic, which is sometimes spoke in present day Israel.

During the boy's time, the Neo-Babylonian Empire developed a sundial, which eventually led to the creation of our current time system.

After 75 years, in 539 B.C.E., the Persian Empire came from the east, led by Cyrus, and overpowered the Neo-Babylonian Empire. That was the end of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, but it will forever be remembered for its amazing contributions to architecture, mathematics, and astronomy.
