NEPAL EARTHQUAKE 2015

LOCATION OF EARTHQUAKE AND AREAS OF EFFECTION

• Referred to as the Himalayan earthquake
• Affected Tibet,china. Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
• This covered an area of 15 kilometres.
• Nepal is in South Central Asia
• It happened in Kathmandu a very poor area of Nepal.

CAUSE OF EARTHQUAKE

• The Nepal earthquake happened when two continental crusts crumpled together and occurs due to friction and pressure.
• It was triggered by the India tectonic plate which is moving 5 cms per year

HOW BIG WAS THE EARTHQUAKD

• This earthquake was 7.8 on the ritchter scale which means this was devastating and most powerful earthquake to strike the region in the past 80 years.

NEPAL RESPONSE TO EARTHQUAKE IN AID

EFFECTS

• Approximately 6,000 died and thousands were injured
• Some got trapped and survived the earthquake however couldn't survive under the rocks since they had no water or food.
• Residents in Chhatrepati were angry that support had not reached them.

WHAT HAS THE NEPALESE GOVERNMENT DONE?

• The government of Nepal has requested international assistance. The UK government has committed £5 million in humanitarian aid to date, and we are working to ensure survivors get the help they need.
