Untitled Slide

NEPTUNE'S POSITION

  • Eighth planet from the Sun
  • 30.07 astronomical units from the Sun
  • Farthest planet from the Sun

CHARECTERISTICS

  • Average temp. -353 degrees farenheit (-214 degrees celsius)
  • 13 moons with an average of 1700 miles in diameter
  • 4.5 billion years old
  • Made of 80% hydrogen, 19% helium and 1.5% other
  • Contains visable clouds and has a diameter of49,525 kilometers

MORE CHARECTERISTICS

  • The gases take in light but reflects the blue
  • The dark spot is not stable
  • The mantle is made of water, ammonia, and methane gass
  • The core is liquid rock
  • The dark spot moves at super sonic speeds

PROBE INFO

  • Probe sent in 1989
  • Built to capture pictures of planets and moons
  • Satellites also took pictures of the planet
  • They have only sent one probe to it
  • The probe was called Voyager 2

CONDITIONS

  • The interior is hot do to the formation of the planet
  • Called the blue planet
  • The surface is very cold
  • It has a storm on it even more powerful than Jupiter's red spot
  • The temperature is cold so it causes many storms

FACTS

  • Neptune's diameter is more than six time earths diameter
  • Neptune is the smallest of the gas planets
  • The gravity is almost earthlike
  • Neptune has the strongest winds in the solar system
  • Neptune coldest planet in the solar system

MORE FACTS

  • Tritan, a moon, is colder than the planet
  • Neptune's rotation is fast; 18 hours = 1 earth day
  • Neptune was made near earth but traveled to its current location
  • Neptune has a thin layer of rings
  • Neptune takes 164.8 earth years to revolve around the sun

TRITAN FACTS

  • Neptune captured triton in its orbit
  • Tritan takes 5.877 days to orbit neptune
  • Tritan doesnt rotate, it just relvolves
  • Tritan has geyser like eruptions on its surface
  • Neptune's most famous moon
