- Nero was well known because he was insane
- He was the complete opposite of a good leader
- He even ordered senate members to kill themselves
- When authority started to catch on, he killed himself

- During his rule he murdered his own mother and his two wives

- Adopted and raised by his great-uncle to become his heir and succesor
- Succeeded his great-uncle Claudius' throne upon his death in 54
- Focused much of his attention on diplomacy, trade, enhancing the cultural
- life of the Empire.

- During his reign, the redoubtable general Corbulo conudcted a succesful
- war and negotiated peace with the Parthian Empire
- Facing a false report of being denounced as a public enemy who was to be
- executed, he commited suicide on 9 June 68
- His death entered the Julio-Claudian dynasty
