FEMINIST/CONFLICT THEORY

Feminist theory is the extension of feminism into theoretical or philosophical discourse. It aims to understand the nature of gender inequality.
There are different types of feminist
Liberal, Socialist,Radical, cultural and Eco-feminist
Liberal feminist:
society holds a false belief that women are less intellectual and physically not able and are denied acess to public world eg politics, construction work etc
Socialist feminist:
women's oppression is rooted by both cultural and economic reasons. women are subject to men's ruling because of their economic dependency.
Socialist feminist:

Radical Feminism:
This term refers to the feminist movement that sprung out of the civil rights and peace movements in 1967-1968. The reason this group gets the "radical" label is that they view the oppression of women as the most fundamental form of oppression, one that cuts across boundaries of race, culture, and economic class.
Androcentrism: belief that male behavior is human behavior
Feminist theory was first introduced in 1848 by Elizabeth Cady Stranton. She discussed the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of woman.
Benefits of feminism
- women can work and support themselves
- can influence others
- women are protected from men
- women are considered to be important
- can achieve what they want
drawbacks of feminism
- men have rejected chivalry
- men are resisting marriage
- it may have caused an anti-male foundation
- belief that masculine is superior to feminine
- created confusion in distinguishing the sexes

Conflict theory emphasizes the role of power in producing social order. It was derived by Karl Marx in the 19th century.
Conflict serves as an important factor to the society. it helps to maintain group stability.
conflict theory may also be associated with other perspectives such as feminism, postmodern theory, queer theory etc
social conflict theory:
Social conflict theory is a Marxist-based social theory which argues that individuals and groups within society have differing amounts of material and non-material resources (such as the wealthy vs. the poor) example the poor paying rent
According to Karl there are two classes. Ruling class which are bourgeoisie and subject class who are the proletariat
• Developed in the mid- 1800s
• The idea of society being held together by power
• Conflicts occur because of competition for power
• Structure of society doesn’t work for everyone because of imbalance of power
• Used to explain society’s behaviour
