ORIGINS

  • The roots of the jazz funeral dates back to the 17th century.
  • This was very popular in west Africa secret societies. 
  • Since the 1970s brass bands like Dirty Dozen, Algiers and much more. 
  • Danny barker said this was added to basic African pattern including death

WHAt is normal For a march

  • They meet up at the church before the march.
  • When they march the family or close friends all get recordings.
  • They have  short time to practice because usually its 3 to 5 days. 
  • They shout down the main streets so the march can continue. 

How the public sees

  • Elienn southern in the Music of Black music Wrote.
  • "On my way to the cemetery it was very slow but relaxing"
