  • 1690: The first U.S. newspaper, Publick Occurrences Both Forreign and Domestick, appears.
  • 1704: The first regularly published newspaper in the United States, The Boston News-Letter, begins.

  • 1765: Britain passes The Stamp Act.
  • 1833: Benjamin Day’s The New York Sun sold newspapers for one penny rather than six cents.
  • 1896: Adolph Simon Ochs buys The New York Times.
  • 1898: Hearst’s Journal and Pulitzer’s World help to create intervention in the Spanish-American War.
