PRESENTATION OUTLINE

LAW 1

  • An object in motion stays in motion until acted upon by another force.
  • It's also called the law of inertia
  • Inertia is the tendency of an object to stay at rest

EXAMPLES

  • A bowling ball rolling down a lane.
  • Seat belts in a car.
  • A marble rolling

LAW 2

  • An unbalanced force acting on an object equals the objects mass times acceleration
  • Net force = mass x acceleration

EXAMPLES

  • A football player pushing a weight sled
  • Pushing a car that's at rest
  • Pushing a box

LAW 3

  • For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
  • Momentum = mass x velocity

EXAMPLES

  • Kicking a ball
  • Sitting on a chair
  • Pushing on a wall

BONUS

  • Gravity- the downward force on an object
  • Weight- a measure of the gravitational force exerted on an object
  • Free fall- the motion of a body when only Gravity is acting on it

BONUS CONTINUED

  • Terminal velocity- when air resistance and weight are equal
  • Projectile motion- is a curved path projected by an object
  • Air resistance- the force that opposes gravity on the opposite direction
