NEWTON'S LAWS PROJECT

By Mai Dang

Newton's First Law of Motion
(Law of Inertia):
An object in motion, stays in motion, and an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by an outside force.

This car is currently at rest...

...UNTIL AN OUTSIDE FORCE ACTS UPON IT...

Newton's Second Law of Motion
(Law of Acceleration):
The relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma.

Understanding the Law of Acceleration

  • Newton's law of acceleration can be stated mathematically as F=ma.
  • An unbalanced force will create acceleration which means the greater the force, the greater the acceleration will be. However, the greater the mass, the less the acceleration.

What do race car builders and engineers have in common when creating a car?
They have the goal of creating a fast engine that has the least amount of mass.
