Chinese and American greetings are different, so Grandmother thought that Stacy was being impolite toward her. Because of that, Grandmother had a negative impression of Stacy.

Grandmother treated Ian better than Stacy so she feels jealous, but she didnt know that back then in China, boys are more valuable than girls.
