What is NGU?
NGU is an inflammation of the urethra that is caused by chlamyida.
Causes of NGU:
NGU is a complication of the bacterial infection Chlamydia. If Chlamydia is not treated urethra may become infected.
Although chlamydia is a common infection in both men and women, NGU is mostly found infecting men.
Symptoms in Men
- Discharge from the penis
- Burning or pain when urinating
- Itching, tenderness, or irritation
- Stains
Symptoms in Women
- Discharge from the vagina
- Burning or pain when urinating
- Abdominal pain or abnormal vaginal blood
TREATMENTS
- Main treatments are: Azithromycin & Doxycycline (antibiotics)
- Take all meds
- Treat all partners/inform all partners
- Abstain from sex until all partners are treated
COMPLICATIONS
- Most common complication is persistent urethritis (reoccurring inflammation)
- Reactive arthritis
- PID
60% of untreated chlamydia cases develop into NGU
