Thesis:
Nicollo Machiavelli impacted history the most due to his book being used as a reference for political leaders and changing the way people thought about political science and how society operates.

Machiavelli greatly impacted history because of his book, The Prince, being used as a reference for politicians and changing the way people thought about how society operates.

His book on political science, The Prince, was studied by multiple politicians as a reference.

"The book's influence has been demonstrable throughout history, said Steven Smith, Alfred Cowles professor of political science at Yale University. Tyrants and successful leaders alike — including figures as different as 20th century Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, and American presidents John Adams and Bill Clinton — have studied, followed or made reference to the book while in power" (Book).

Reason 2

  • Machiavelli was different from other philosophers and focused on how society actually operates and changed people's perspective on the operation of society and political science.
Lastly, Machiavelli changed the way how people thought about political science and how society operated.

"Unlike philosophers who had come before him, Machiavelli was not concerned with how a perfect society should operate; he focused on how society actually operates, based on his years of keen observation. The nature of humanity is that it is corrupt, he believed" (World).

Because Machiavelli was different than other philosophers and he focused on how society actually operated, he changed people's views on how society actually works and still impacts the way society works today.

Primary Source

  • "Because just as good morals, if they are to be maintained, have need of the laws, so the laws, if they are to be observed, have need of good morals" (Quote).
Since Niccolo Machiavelli viewed laws and politics as things that needed to be maintained, his views were viewed as important and are still present in political science today.

  • His book was studied and referred by multiple politicians.
  • His views on political science and how society operates are still here today.
  • Will his work still impact us for the next centuries?
