NIGERIAN CULTURE AFTER BEING COLONIZED

HOW DID NIGERIAS CULTURE CHANGE AFTER BEING BY BRITAIN?

  • Britain colonized Nigeria at the end of the 19th century,
  • this changed many aspects of Nigerian culture as religion
  • economy and education.

RELIGION

  • Christian missionaries were sent to Africa to convert the population.
  • The majority of the population was Muslim so this created conflict.
  • Many tribes had their own indigenous beliefs.
  • The British set up schools and taught Christianity.

ECONOMIC

  • The British expolited the Nigerians country, by taking raw materials
  • and using slave labor. But it was not all negative the British made
  • Nigeria a more organized state and improved the lives of the people.

EDUCATION

  • The British used school to teach English and
  • spread Christianity, they also encouraged literacy.

EFFECTS

  • The Nigerians lost their authority in Nigeria,
  • they lost their language, their religion ect.
  • But what the British did to the Nigerians culture were
  • not all negative they made the country more organized,
  • and improved the quality of life for many Nigerians.
