FATHER & SON RELATIONSHIP

  • Elie teaches his father to march in step.
  • Marching in step so that you don't get beaten.
  • Father and son have a close relationship, looking out for one another.

FATHER & SON RELATIONSHIP

  • They live off of the fact the others still alive.
  • Elie looks after his father as he gets older and grows weaker.
  • It is important that they sustain this relationship to survive.

AFFECTS OF WAR

How the war has affected people.

AFFECTS OF WAR

  • You see things that can't be unseen.
  • People in line to the crematorium.
  • People being shoved to their death in a pit of fire.

AFFECTS OF WAR

  • Father and son turn against each other.
  • Relationships are destroyed.
  • Families are destroyed even more.
  • No one trusts no one anymore.

RACISM

The Germans vs. Jews.

RACISM

  • The unequal fairness of how the Jews are treated.
  • Jews were given small portions of bread and soup.
  • Weren't given much clothing to keep warm in the cold.

RACISM

  • Idek was caught with a girl, causing Elie punishment.
  • The punishment was 25 whips.
  • Being whipped as a threat, so Elie wouldn't tell.

SYMBOLISM

Symbols that represent part of the story.

SYMBOLISM

  • The fire bell represents the crematorium fires.
  • It also represents the fire/fight between the Germans and Jews.
  • The bell shows it's only just the start.
  • It's the start of our first class. Or the next fight. There is no end.

SYMBOLISM

  • The extinguisher shows the fires being put out.
  • There was an end.
  • Putting out the flames between the Jews and Germans.
  • As well as putting flames out in the crematoriums.

SYMBOLISM

  • The star shows the 'racism'.
  • The Germans made the Jews wear stars.
  • They wore the stars to show who was Jewish and who wasn't.

SYMBOLISM

  • The water that's falling, represents the Jews losing faith.
  • It can also show the fall of power.
  • The Jewish at the bottom being crushed by the Germans up top.
