HOW IT ALL STARTED

The name "Nike" wasn't created until 1971, the "swoosh" wasn't the logo until 1972, and the phrase "Just Do It" didn't exist until 1988

The founders, Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, made their company a success because they knew how athletes thought

Along with their first employee, Jeff Johnson, they were all very involved in track and field

Their first big break was when Steve Prefontaine became the first athlete to endorse the brand

Through the next couple of decades, the company had its ups and downs

With some really good propoganda, the company thrived. However, in the mid-1980s, the company declined due to a bad call with their next line

The endorsement from Michael Jordan in 1985 put the company back at the top of the charts

Since then, the company has thrived. With their excellent propaganda methods and athlete endorsements, they are a favorite brand worldwide.
